Cape Couple strive to bring Islamic Knowledge to the community

The Islamic Forum hosted the ‘Jannah Training’ course on the 3rd and 4th of March at the SulemanLockhat Auditorium attended by some 50 women.

The course instructor, Sister Fadwa Solomon, is a hafidah, mother of three, trained Montessori teacher and a teacher of Quran and Arabic at the Qamar Institute in Cape Town. This combination of skills enabled her to develop a unique and relevant course for mothers, grandmothers and educators of young children. She imparted tools that could be used in everyday situations to lovingly create an awareness of Almighty Allah in young children. She also taught attendees about gentle and appropriate discipline, drawing inspiration from the Prophet (saw)’s beautiful interaction with young children. Many moving examples from her own experience as a daughter, mother and educator were shared with the eager participants. It was quite refreshing to attend a course that was interactive and practical with tools that could be used immediately

Sister Fadwa Solomon visited Durban for the first time with her husband Sheikh Yazeed Mohamed, who is also a teacher of Islamic knowledge. The couple is based in Schaapkraal, Cape Town and are hosting programmes for adults, teenagers and children to enable them to acquire a profound knowledge of how to live according to Islamic teachings.

Sheikh Yazeed Mohamed is the coordinator of Education and Youth Development at the Musjid Khiedmatiel Islamia where for three nights every week, classes are held. “On Tuesday nights we have a programme entitled ‘In the Footsteps of the Final Messenger’. On Wednesday evenings, ‘Journey through the Quran’ and on Thursday,  Zikr.” The classes attract between 100 and 200 people, both men and women across the age groups. Sheikh Yazeed is associated with the Mizan Institute for men and women and they are both with the Qamar Institute, founded by Sister Fadwa which is aimed only at women. “We try to make knowledge of deen easily accessible  and we provide Islamic education with the hope and objective of strengthening future generations, by the permission of Allah.”  Said Sheikh Yazeed.

The couple who are both hafizul Quran completed their Islamic studies at DarunNaim in Wynberg, Cape Town.  Sister Fadwa Solomon is in demand to host specialist classes in spreading Islamic education in South Africa.

Feedback from Jannah Training Course
It was an informative and practical approach..to child rearing.. I personally found it beneficial.. and I’m looking forward to implementing the skills I have learnt at school.. Allah reward all who assisted in bringing the workshop to us..

I’ve often wondered how you have conversations about Allah with your children… How do you instill a deep love, a yearning to please Allah, how do you protect your natural state of belief and iman from all that it faces today? Mine was the generation of Madressah that was based on fear… The reality is that it pushes you away… It seems out of reach and impossible, and it feels easy to give up.

The weekends programme was utterly beautiful… Full of hope and positivity… inspiring us to do the best for our children and ourselves in the most kind and gentle way…

Blessed to have been in the company of Fadwa Solomon… Thank you, may Allah grant you whatever is needed to continue the Jannah Training Workshop.
